Yobe State now Enjoys Increased Peace and Security – Buni

The closure of all IDP camps in the state, according to Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, was brought on by increased security.

He stated this on Wednesday during a presentation at a meeting of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.

“Yobe state now enjoys increased peace and security,” the Governor said. “That resulted in the closure of all internally-displaced persons camps, as our displaced persons have since returned to their original communities or decided to remain in host communities permanently.

“The growing peace in the state has enabled our administration to rebuild basic infrastructure and restore public utility services that support our people to move about in search of legitimate means of livelihood.”

The Far-North Governor of Cameroon, Mr Mijin Yawa Bakari, attended the meeting of the Lake Chad Basin Commission. The Chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Commission is Mr Bakara.

The summit attendees decided to develop a worldwide action plan that would lessen the issue of trans-border insecurity and boost regional economic growth.

The problem of trans-border insecurity has long been a source of worry in Nigeria and its neighbouring nations of Niger, Chad, and Cameroon.

During the one-day visit, it was also decided to brainstorm the strengths and weaknesses that would be advantageous for the two nations, as well as the welfare and repatriation of the Nigerian refugees living in the member states.
