Yomi Fabiyi Denies Allegations against his new movie, ‘Oko Iyabo’
Yomi Fabiyi has denied the allegations labelled against his new movie, ‘Oko Iyabo’. He was accused of making a movie about Baba Ijesha’s rape case, using the real names of the individuals involved in the incident. He also made it look like the victimized minor was having an affair with the paedophile, opposing the reality.
Those who have seen the movie said he misrepresented the story to make the victim and those calling for justice look bad. According to viewers, Yomi Fabiyi represented the underage victim of Baba Ijesha as an adult who had a consensual relationship with the Yoruba actor. He also allegedly presented Iyabo Ojo – who has been calling for justice for the abused girl – as a prostitute.
Many of Fabiyi’s colleagues including Iyabo Ojo, Mercy Aigbe and Tonto Dikeh have reacted to his mockery of a movie.
Mercy described Fabiyi as a disgrace and accused him of making a mockery of someone’s pain, the actress further stated that a particular scene from the movie is “insensitive, utterly distasteful and disgusting”.
She wrote;
“How on earth would you make mockery of someone’s agonizing pain! How????? Only a wicked soul would do that!!!!! Just that particular scene I saw of your movie is insensitive, utterly distasteful and disgusting! @realyomifabiyi”
Tonto on the other hand, said she’s ashamed she knows Yomi Fabiyi and she maintained that she will always be on the side of the girl child.
“But what you have just done by capitalising on the pain and agony of a molested child and the slap in the mother’s face. I am ashamed I know you. It’s a slap on all rape Victims (Dead or alive). Yomi, I expected better of you. My prayers for you are that you find men and women who will fight for your children if they see injustice but God forbid they ever see it.
“I can’t tell a grown man what to do but I sincerely hope there is a part of the law that can handle this bully. I wouldn’t disrespect you nor will I hate you. I don’t feed you, so I add no value but I will look you in your damn eyes balls and tell you the damn truth your wrong. What you have done is disgusting and it’s called bullying. You have displayed bitterness and anger. This has nothing to do with your support for an accused rapist. This is your heart coming out to dance”, Tonto wrote.
After the movie was uploaded on YouTube, many people petitioned that it should be taken down. Tonto also instigated the motion by people to report so the video can be taken down.
The video was eventually taken down, and Fabiyi claimed he was the one who asked that the video be pulled down.
He, however, insisted that the movie has a good storyline and is meant to “inject right values, correct ills and educate”. In a video posted on his IG page, Yomi also denied claims that his movie undermines the girlchild.
In his words
“God sees my conscience. No part of my movie OkoIyabo undermines the girl child. So don’t let them play anything into your head”.
