Youths are our Nation’s Present and Future – Gbajabiamila

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said Nigerian youth need to be supported to succeed in being present and future leaders.

Gbajabiamila stated this in a speech while declaring a public hearing on a bill to establish the National Youth Development Commission organized by the House Committee on Youth at the National Assembly.

He noted that all governing actions and policies should prioritize ensuring that youths aim to become big and achieve great things.

“This includes ensuring that they have access to quality education and training to develop the skills required in the modern economy,” the Speaker said.

He revealed that a bill sponsored by Rep. Simon Karu is aimed at advancing policy recommendations to create a framework for coordinating a national strategy to promote the social, economic, and political advancement of youths.

Speaking further, Gbajabiamila said for such bills, “it is a proposal that will be improved through thorough consideration and informed debate as it makes its way through the legislative process in the National Assembly.

“The youths are our nation’s present and future. All avenues for ensuring that young people have access to capital to innovate and build enterprises in every economic sector should be explored”.

The lawmaker stressed a need to try out opinions from stakeholders across the country. He said this would give the National Assembly ample views to form a legislative approach to serve the country’s best interest.

Gbajabiamila further called on lawmakers to carry out their duties diligently and ensure that the contributions they make are informed and considerate. He charged them to bear in mind the challenges the country is facing today and the opportunities that abound.
