Zamfara PDP Demands Matawalle’s Sack
The main opposition, The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has made a call demanding the Federal High Court in Abuja to sack Governor Bello Matawalle, of Zamfara State, from office over his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
A suit filed on Monday through two of its members in Zamfara State, Alhaji Sani Kaura Ahmed and Abubakar Muhammed, insisted that since Matawalle has abandoned the party that brought him to power, he should also lose his ticket to remain in office.
In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/489/2021, the Plaintiffs challenged the supreme court’s earlier judgment that no APC candidates in the 2019 governorship election in Zamfara State have not conducted valid primaries.
The PDP noted that this makes it unlawful for Governor Matawalle and Gusau to retain their offices after defecting from the PDP to the APC, being that it is transferring PDP’s victory to the APC.
The party seeks that the court should, among other things, affirm that Matawalle and Gusau must resign from their offices before defecting to allow the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct a fresh election within three months to enable the PDP to replace them.
However, following an ex-parte submission, the Plaintiffs moved through their lawyer, Mr Kanu Agabi, SAN, Justice Inyang Ekwo, issuing an order for the court processes to be served on Matawalle through substituted means. The court specifically directed that the operations be done on the Defendants through the National Secretariat of APC in Abuja and adjourned the matter till July 16.
