A high-profile security breach has rocked Nigeria’s apex policy and strategic training hub, the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, near Jos. The Plateau State Police Command has officially confirmed that three heroic security operatives lost their lives during a fierce early morning gun battle with suspected bandits who attempted to infiltrate the strategic facility.
According to official updates from the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the highly coordinated assault occurred under the cover of darkness. Armed men reportedly breached a section of the institution’s perimeter fence and attempted to make headway toward the residential quarters hosting senior public officials and military officers undergoing elite training. However, their advance was met with immediate, aggressive resistance from a combined security detail stationed at the premises. In the heavy exchange of gunfire that echoed across the surrounding communities for minutes, two soldiers and one police officer were tragically killed while successfully keeping the attackers from penetrating deeper into the facility.
While the exact motive behind targeting the country’s foremost think tank remains unclear, authorities have moved swiftly to douse public anxiety. The Head of Public Affairs at NIPSS, Dr. Osime Samuel, reassured the public that the situation was promptly brought under control through the rapid deployment of military and police reinforcements mobilized by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah. High-intensity patrols have been activated along the Hadejia-Kuru axis, and normal academic and administrative activities have safely resumed. A comprehensive, intelligence-led investigation is currently underway to track down the fleeing assailants and ensure an ironclad security ring around the critical national asset.
