Bovi and Nomzamo Mbatha Take the Reins as AMVCA 2026 Hosts.

The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) has signaled a significant changing of the guard with the official announcement of Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as the primary hosts for the May 9, 2026, ceremony.

This pairing marks the end of an eleven-year era led by broadcasting veteran IK Osakioduwa, who has anchored the prestigious show since its 2013 debut. Organizers noted that the selection of Bovi, a master of sharp wit and narrative, alongside Mbatha, a global screen icon and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, is designed to bring a fresh, pan-African energy to the Eko Hotel and Suites stage. Adding to the institutional weight of the event, veteran Nollywood legend Joke Silva has been appointed as the Head Judge, overseeing a jury responsible for 18 of the 32 award categories. Her leadership is specifically focused on the technical excellence and jury-decided segments, ensuring that the craftsmanship of African directors, editors, and writers is evaluated with veteran precision. As the industry prepares for the final showdown between leading nominees The Herd and Gingerrr, the combination of Bovi’s comedic timing and Mbatha’s international presence is expected to deliver a high-octane celebration of African excellence.
