Comedian Bovi Speaks on Relationship with Basketmouth

Nigerian comedian and actor, Bovi Ugboma, has clarified the state of his relationship with fellow comic star, Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth.

In a recent interview, Bovi dismissed speculations of a feud between the two, stressing that there was no conflict but rather a natural drift as their careers and priorities evolved.

“I’m cool with Basketmouth, nothing happened. I’ve answered this question before,” Bovi said. “Interests changed, especially for me. I wanted to focus more on my family and also elevate myself. I easily get bored with things, so when I’m doing something for too long, I try to do something else.”

According to him, the decision to step away was influenced by his desire for independence and personal growth. Bovi explained that he wanted to prove himself as a solo act and expand his creative ventures beyond stand-up collaborations.

“So as you know, I started to do films. I went back to TV, and I wanted to build my own brand. I needed the world to see that I could stand with the mic endlessly by myself,” he said. “Also, I started to think: when I announce a show at Eko Hotel and it fills up, why should I share the money? Why should we be many doing one show when I can keep all the earnings myself?”

Bovi emphasized that his shift was not about rivalry but about growth, creativity, and financial independence, underscoring that his relationship with Basketmouth remains cordial despite their different paths.
