Barcelona snatched a narrow 1-0 win (5-4 on aggregate) over Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final clash to progress to the final of the competition, where they will square up against Real Madrid.
Madrid had themselves earlier snatched a 5-4 aggregate win against Real Soceidad to book a place in the final.
Having played out a dramatic 4-4 draw in the first leg in February, the return match was pretty open to any side and Ferran Torres’ first half goal was just enough for Barcelona.
It was a heartbreaking exit for Atletico who got off to a rather promising season only to end up getting eliminated by their Spanish rivals, first by Real Madrid in the Champions League and now Barcelona.
The Copa del Rey final set for April 26 will be the eighth El Clasico to be witnessed in the competition, but the first in 11 years.
