Dangote Group Releases Official Statement Following BBNaija Phyna’s Sister’s Accident

A heavy cloud of sorrow and concern now hangs over the family of former Big Brother Naija winner Phyna after her younger sister, Ruth Otabor, was seriously injured in a truck accident in Auchi, Edo State. Phyna took to social media, accusing a Dangote Group truck of causing the harm, an accident that unfortunately led to her sister losing a leg.

Responding to the uproar, Dangote Group has stepped forward with an official statement. The company confirmed the accident and pledged full support for Ruth. According to the statement, senior officials from Dangote Cement Plc and their insurance team quickly visited the crash site, engaged with law enforcement, and saw Ruth and her family at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital. Their promise is to cover her medical care and pay appropriate compensation, all under the company’s welfare policy. They reiterated their heartfelt wishes for Ruth’s speedy and full recovery.

The official statement read:

“Following the recent road accident in Auchi, Edo State, involving one of our trucks, which sadly resulted in injury to Mrs. Ruth Otabor, senior officials from Dangote Cement Plc, together with our insurance team, promptly visited the scene, engaged with law enforcement authorities, and visited the victim and her family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Edo State”.

“This action reflects our unwavering commitment to the well-being of those affected. We are ensuring full support for Mrs. Otabor, including comprehensive medical care and appropriate compensation, in line with Dangote Group’s welfare policy. Our thoughts remain with Mrs. Ruth Otabor and her loved ones, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery,” they wrote

Meanwhile, Phyna isn’t holding back. She raised concerns not just about the accident, but also how it played out afterward. She questioned why images of her sister were shared online without permission and why the Dangote Group referred to her as “Mrs. Ruth Otabor,” suggesting this was building a narrative she didn’t agree with. Phyna demanded privacy and respect for her family going forward, insisting that no cameras be allowed in any future discussions.
