The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially registered two new political parties: the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). This announcement, made by INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, brings the total number of registered political parties in Nigeria to 21.
The road to registration was no small feat. Out of 171 associations that submitted letters of intent, only these two successfully navigated the rigorous legal and constitutional hurdles. While the DLA cleared every statutory requirement through the standard assessment process, the NDC secured its spot following a court directive. With the 2027 general elections already appearing on the horizon, these new entries signal a growing appetite for fresh ideologies and alternative platforms for Nigerians.
