Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United, who once looked very threatening and topped the premier league table at some point in the campaign, seem to be losing their mojo with every passing game as they were yet again held to a goalless by Crystal Palace, the third goalless draw in a row for the Red devils.
While these draws, especially those away from home, might be racking up some good away statistics for Manchester United, they aren’t doing any good for their already slim title hopes, as of Wednesday’s result, all but leaves them 14 points behind city neighbours and league leaders, Manchester City.
The visitors dominated possession at Selhurst part but struggled to create many meaningful chances and were everything but threatening.
The host, on their part, did not manage a shot on target until early in the second half when Jordan Ayew fired straight at keeper Dean Henderson after a good one-two with Christian Benteke, with Henderson also denying Patrick van Aanholt right at the end to ensure things stayed even as Palace saw themselves go a season with suffering defeat to Manchester United after already winning in their first encounter of the season at Old Trafford.
For Crystal Palace, the result is an as good one as the point moved them on to 34 points and 11 points clear of the relegation zone as Roy Hodgson’s side edge closer to securing another season of Premier League football.
And they’ll be needing that momentum when they travel to Tottenham Hotspur to take on Jose Mourinho’s side on Sunday.
As for Manchester United, they’ll be needing all the extra motivation they can get if they hope to set an upset when they meet high flying Manchester City for Sunday’s Manchester Derby.
