The only goal of the keenly contested encounter came in extra time thanks to substituting Scott McTominay’s strike off Marcus Rashford’s pass.
The Hammers were resolute even in injury concerns and faced changes, but there can only be one winner, and McTominay’s low cut finish was just enough.
Manchester United are next in action at West Brom in the Premier League on Sunday, February 14, while West Ham will take on Sheffield United on Monday, February 15.
