Elder statesman and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, was laid to rest in his hometown of Yola, Adamawa State.
Tukur passed away in Abuja on Saturday, September 12, 2026—just three days shy of his 91st birthday. His remains were flown to Yola and received an emotional, high-powered sendoff on Sunday [cite: 1.2.2]. Islamic funeral prayers were conducted at the Lamido’s Palace and led by the Chief Imam of the Modibbo Adama Central Mosque, Alhaji Ahmadu Bobboi, before his body was interred at the family residence in Fadde-Sanda along Abuja Road.
The solemn ceremony drew a massive convergence of political royalty, business titans, and traditional rulers. Among those who paid their final respects were industrialist Aliko Dangote, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Senator Iya Abbas, and former Governor Jibrilla Bindow, alongside regional leaders.
Grieving the loss of a titan who served as governor of the old Gongola State, Minister of Industries under the Abacha regime, and president of the Africa Business Roundtable, Governor Fintiri hailed Tukur as an “Iroko tree” whose wisdom and developmental footprint shaped generations. To honor his monumental legacy, the Adamawa State government declared three days of mourning and set aside Monday, September 14, 2026, as a work-free day across the state. He is survived by two wives and 18 children, including Awwal Tukur, the Secretary to the Adamawa State Government.
