Fresh NYSC Graduate Killed by Bandits in Kaduna, Two Months After Service Completion

A young man identified as Jeremiah Adina has been killed by suspected bandits in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, barely two months after completing the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

It was gathered that Adina left his hometown, Awon, around 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, to travel to the local government headquarters, a journey of about 20 minutes. Tragically, the vehicle he boarded was ambushed by gunmen along the way. Adina and the driver were shot dead, while other passengers managed to escape.

The victim was laid to rest the following day, Friday, October 3, in his community amid tears and grief.

According to Doris Mackson, a Facebook user who knew the deceased, the incident has thrown the entire community into mourning. She described Adina as an orphan who worked tirelessly to build a better future for himself and his family.

“Jeremiah grew up as an orphan. He worked on farms to sponsor himself through the College of Education. Later, he got a primary school teaching job, which helped him further his education. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Education and completed his NYSC just two months ago,” she wrote.

Mackson added that Adina had planned to pursue a Master’s degree and was excited about the next chapter of his life before his untimely death.

“Jeremiah was full of hope and determination. He dreamed of changing his story and supporting his mother, wife, and children. His death has left them devastated,” she said.

Residents of Awon expressed anger and frustration over the repeated attacks in their community. Just two days before Adina’s death, another villager, Mr. Kwanaki, was also killed by gunmen.

They lamented that despite the presence of security forces in the area, the killings continue unchecked.

“Our leaders keep silent while innocent lives are lost,” Doris added. “The government must act before more promising lives like Jeremiah’s are cut short.”
