From Lagos to Bayelsa: Tinubu’s Infrastructure Tour Hits the South-South

President Bola Tinubu is expected to arrive in Bayelsa State today, Friday, April 10, 2026, for a historic visit to inaugurate several “landmark” infrastructure projects completed by the administration of Governor Douye Diri.

The visit, which follows the President’s two-day working tour in Lagos, is being hailed by state officials as a “defining moment” for the socio-economic landscape of the South-South region.

The “Prosperity” Projects

Governor Diri’s “Government of Assured Prosperity” has prepared several high-impact projects for the presidential commissioning:

  • 60-Megawatt Independent Power Plant: Located in the Elebele community, this gas turbine project is perhaps the most anticipated. It is designed to provide near-constant electricity to Yenagoa and surrounding areas, significantly surpassing the 24MW currently received from the national grid.
  • Angiama-Oporoma Bridge: A 630-meter bridge that finally connects the Southern Ijaw local government area to the rest of the state by road. This project addresses over 60 years of inaccessibility for several riverine communities.
  • Major Road Networks: The President is also slated to commission the 42-kilometer Sagbama–Ekeremor Road and the New Yenagoa City–Gbarantoru Road, both of which serve as critical arteries for trade and transit within the state.

Economic and Political Significance

The Bayelsa State Government has expressed optimism that the inauguration of these projects will attract fresh investment to the state.

  • Investment Hub: Hon. Jonathan Obuebite, Special Adviser to the Governor on SMEs, noted that the infrastructure—particularly the gas turbine—positions Bayelsa as a prime destination for industrial growth.
  • A “New Phase”: State officials have called on residents to turn out in mass to welcome the President, emphasizing that the visit transcends party lines to focus on national economic development.

The President is expected to return to Abuja following the conclusion of the commissioning ceremonies in Yenagoa later today.
