Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dropped a massive political bombshell by challenging Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates eyeing the 2027 general elections to prepare for an aggressive, no-holds-barred struggle for power. Speaking dynamically at the party’s 109th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, Wike declared that political power is never given or dashed on a platter of gold, but must be forcefully fought for and taken. Drawing deeply from his own highly contentious political journey where he fought all the way to the Supreme Court to secure his first local government chairmanship, the FCT Minister heavily criticized politicians who rely exclusively on “food is ready” politics. He noted that while PDP members once acted like spoiled children when the party held the presidency, the reality has completely changed now that they are in the opposition. Wike warned that any candidate who is too afraid of intimidation, harassment, or legal threats should immediately exit the political arena. He specifically urged party leaders to stop introducing religion and personal faith into electoral races, demanding that every NEC member instead return to their grassroots bases and prove their worth by delivering actual electoral results. Addressing the deep internal division within the party, Wike dismissed threats from the rival Tanimu Turaki-led PDP faction, which has claimed it will sponsor competing candidates across all levels in 2027. He confidently revealed that the ultimate test of political legitimacy rests on whoever secures the official INEC candidate nomination portal access code when it opens on June 26, mockingly stating that the courts are meant for human beings, not ghosts, and that his faction remains completely unbothered by the opposition’s legal challenges.
