Barely one week after losing the FA Cup final to city rivals, Arsenal, Frank Lampard’s Chelsea headed off to Germany for the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 fixture against Bayern Munich.
In the absence of several starters, including star winger Christian Pulisic and suspended players Marcos Alonso and César Azpilicueta, Chelsea could only hope that a miracle of some sort will help them overturn an already existing 3-0 goal margin to keep them in the competition.
It was all faint hopes and nothing else as the ruthless champions of Germany simply pick up from where they stopped with Lewandowski, the competition’s leading goal scorer, calmly converting the spot kick he earned in the 9th minute.

And continued after the break when Corentin Tolisso come off the bench to find the back of the in 76th minute and Lewandowski sealed it with his second goal of the night and his 13th so far in Champions League campaign in the 84th minute.
Tammy Abraham scored Chelsea’s only goal of the game and indeed the two legged tie, to bring the scoreline to 4-1 after Hudson-Odio’s goal was rules it for an offside.
Abraham’s goal did absolutely nothing to sheild the North Londoners from experiencing their biggest-ever aggregate defeat in European football thanks to last night’s humiliating 7-1 aggregate tally, surpassing a 4-1 loss at the hands of Barcelona in 2018.
