Nollywood has officially etched its name into the history books as the crime thriller Black Market smashed the Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a single-location film screening, gathering over 51,000 qualifying viewers at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos.
The historic spectacle shattered the long-standing record of 43,624 viewers set in 2015 during a screening of the Filipino movie Felix Manalo at the Philippine Arena. Fans started queuing around the iconic Lagos venue as early as 2 PM, with the crowd growing into an electric festival complete with music, food, games, and red-carpet glam ahead of the evening screening.
While Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat initially announced a total turnout of 64,000 attendees, Guinness World Records strictly validated 51,000 viewers who stayed glued to their seats from the opening credits all the way to the final scene. Directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay, the star-studded film features an elite ensemble cast including Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Lateef Adedimeji, Omowunmi Dada, Scarlet Gomez, and Kunle Remi.
