“I can’t cope again” — Kunle Afolayan laments spending ₦11m on diesel in one Month

Kunle Afolayan has expressed frustration over the rising cost of diesel in Nigeria, revealing that he spends about ₦11 million on diesel in just one month to power one of his businesses.

The renowned filmmaker made the revelation in a recent video while speaking about the financial strain businesses face due to the country’s unstable electricity supply and increasing fuel prices.

According to Afolayan, the huge diesel expense is necessary to keep operations running smoothly at the KAP Film Village and Resort, his popular film production and tourism facility.

He explained that despite investing in solar power to reduce dependence on generators, the facility still relies heavily on diesel because solar alone cannot sustain its daily power needs.

“I’ve been sad because I can’t cope again. Diesel is about ₦1,500 per litre now. In one of the businesses that we run, we spent about ₦11 million in four to five weeks,” he said.

The filmmaker further disclosed that at times the business purchases diesel on credit, paying gradually as money comes in, which he described as a difficult but necessary step to keep the operations running.
