The humbling scene, captured in a viral video circulating across social media platforms, played out during a closed-door meeting with Lagos State APC chieftains. The tension between the two political heavyweights had simmered since the stormy May 2026 APC primary elections for Surulere Constituency I, where Elliot withdrew from the race after alleging intimidation, paving the way for Barakat Odunuga-Bakare—widely believed to have Gbajabiamila’s backing—to clinch the ticket. Rifts had also previously widened over whispers linking Elliot to maneuvers in the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership tussle.
Reaching deep into cultural protocol to mend broken bridges with his long-time political mentor, Elliot unreservedly laid bare his regret:
“I’m sorry. I have no excuse; I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry. I’m deeply sorry, sir. And in our culture, we prostrate. Don’t be angry, Daddy,” Elliot pleaded from the floor.
Accepting the gesture, Gbajabiamila asked the lawmaker to get up, paving the way for Elliot to take to social media later to reaffirm his undying loyalty to his “political father and mentor”. Stressing that no temporary ambition is worth wrecking a relationship built on years of shared struggle, Elliot vowed to channel his energy back into building a united front for Surulere, Lagos, and the ruling party.
