“I Only Worked Wednesdays!” — Rotimi Amaechi Claims He ‘Technically Resigned’ From Buhari’s Cabinet

Former Governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has dropped a political bombshell by revealing how he “technically resigned” from the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari due to unmet expectations.

Amaechi, who served as a key architect of the All Progressives Congress (APC) victory in 2015 as Director-General of the presidential campaign, disclosed that he became deeply concerned when the administration began deviating from its core campaign promises. According to him, after privately confronting President Buhari about the government’s direction and realizing things were not shifting, he decided to gradually withdraw his active involvement.

To execute his quiet step-back, Amaechi formally applied to the President for permission to pursue further university studies. His application explicitly stated that he would be unavailable for ministerial duties on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

“That’s technically resigning from government. The only day I came to the office was Wednesdays,” Amaechi revealed, explaining that he essentially reduced his role to part-time status while remaining in cabinet until his official departure in May 2022 to contest the APC presidential primary.

The startling admission offers a rare inside look at the internal friction within the previous administration and highlights the frustration felt even by top party stalwarts when governance fails to align with original political blueprints.
