The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has issued a stern warning against any actions that could destabilize the peace of the ancient city, following claims made by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose regarding an alleged plot to oust the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The CCII cautioned that Ibadan must not be “thrown into chaos” over unverified political narratives. The council’s reaction follows a controversial statement by Fayose, where he suggested there was an active scheme to undermine the throne of the traditional ruler.
Key highlights of the CCII’s response:
- Safeguarding the Throne: The council emphasized that the Olubadan stool is sacred and that the process of succession and administration is governed by deep-rooted traditions that should not be trifled with for political gain.
- Call for Restraint: CCII President-General, Chief Aremu Majeed Olumidi, urged high-profile individuals to be mindful of their utterances, noting that “reckless claims” can incite unnecessary tension among the populace.
- Unity of the City: The council reassured residents and the global Ibadan community that the traditional institution remains stable and that they will resist any attempt by “outsiders” to interfere in the internal affairs of the kingdom.
- Focus on Development: Rather than focusing on perceived plots, the council encouraged leaders to prioritize the development of Ibadan and the welfare of its people.
