The wait is over for nearly two million Nigerian students. On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) officially released the results for the 1.94 million candidates who sat for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
While the majority of scores are now accessible, the Board has emphasized a “batched” approach to manage the massive influx of data and ensure examination integrity.
How to Check Your Results
For now, JAMB has restricted result checking to SMS only. The online portal for printing result slips is not yet active.
- The Method: Send UTMERESULT to 55019 or 66019.
- Requirement: You must use the exact phone number (SIM) you used during your registration.
- Cost: Ensure you have at least ₦50 airtime on your line.
- Avoid Scams: JAMB has warned candidates not to use third-party websites or “result upgraders,” as these are fraudulent.
The “100,000” Screening Process
If you haven’t received your score yet, don’t panic. JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin clarified that approximately 100,000 results are currently under extra scrutiny:
- Technical Infractions: These include issues like biometric verification mismatches or suspicious “AI-assisted” activities detected by the Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers.
- Batch Release: These flagged results will be cleared and released in batches over the next 48 hours as the screening concludes.
- Sanctions: JAMB has already confirmed that two candidates and a parent are in custody for attempting to falsify results using AI tools.
The 2026 UTME Landscape
This year’s examination saw a significant turnout, with over 2.2 million registered candidates—a 10.5% increase from last year.
- Top State: Lagos recorded the highest participation with over 381,000 candidates.
- International Reach: Candidates also sat for the exam in the UK, South Africa, Ghana, and Gambia.
