One year after the tragic passing of beloved Nollywood actor Junior Pope real name John Paul Obumneme Odonwodo, his wife Jennifer Awele has offered a deeply emotional tribute for his rememberance.
Taking to Instagram, Jennifer opened up about the unbearable grief and pain her family has endured since that fateful day, April 10, 2024, when Junior Pope drowned alongside others at the Anam River in Anambra State while returning from a movie set produced by Adanma Luke.
In a post filled with raw emotion and love, Jennifer reflected on the year without her husband — a year of unimaginable loss, unanswered questions, and moments where staying strong felt nearly impossible.
“It’s been one year of standing in the face of our unimaginable loss, and not a day has gone by without a thought of you… The grief remains heavy, the absence left a void that words can never fill, but through it all, we look up for strength from heaven as a guiding light.”
She shared how their children; Jason, Jaden, and Jamon (fondly called J Papa) continue to hold on to the promises their father made, like taking them to a football academy and gifting a big toy car. Her words brought tears to many, revealing the difficulty of explaining to young hearts that Daddy won’t be coming home.
“I still don’t have the right words to respond to Jason and Jaden wanting to know if Daddy will fulfill his promise… Then the littlest one, Jamon, keeps asking when Daddy is bringing the big toy car he promised him.”
Despite the pain, Jennifer expressed her deep gratitude to those who stood by her family, offering support, prayers, and strength in their time of mourning. She honored her husband’s memory as one that will never fade — a man who was not just a husband and father, but a beacon of love to many.
“You did not only leave us, your family, but so many who loved you and loved your works… Though you’re no longer by our side, you live on in every memory, every smile and every tear.”
Media personality May Edochie also penned a moving tribute to the late actor, recalling his vibrant spirit and famous catchphrases:
“Swag nation….Who does that?…..The envy of all women….God is the greatest….I haven’t heard these words for a year now and they only remind me of you JP, the leader of the swag nation. As you continue to rest in peace, may the good Lord continue to protect this beautiful family that you left behind 🙏.”
“I know how tough it is for a husband and a wife to jointly raise a family let alone a single parent. My dear @qutejay , may the Lord remain your strength and give you inspiration to fully resume your business @dopeevents007.”
