Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has given Nigerians something unexpected to talk about after stepping onto the runway at the 2026 Lagos Fashion Week.
The governor made a surprise appearance during Nigerian designer Ugo Monye’s showcase on October 31, walking alongside professional models in a stylish traditional-inspired outfit.
The moment quickly attracted attention, with videos and photographs of his runway appearance spreading across social media.
Sanwo-Olu later shared the experience online, describing it as an opportunity to step away from his usual government responsibilities and support the creative industry.
Interestingly, this was not his first time walking the Lagos Fashion Week runway. He also appeared at Ugo Monye’s show in 2022.
The 2026 edition of Lagos Fashion Week, held from October 28 to November 1 at the Federal Palace Hotel, brought together more than 60 designers from across Africa.
Its theme, “CRAFTED: Heritage. Innovation. Circular Futures”, celebrated African craftsmanship, contemporary fashion and sustainable approaches to design.
While some Nigerians found the governor’s appearance entertaining, others praised him for showing support for local designers and the creative economy.
Whatever the reactions, Sanwo-Olu certainly managed to steal a little of the fashion spotlight that evening.
