Legal Experts Urge Expelled Madonna University Nursing Students to Drag School to Court

The disciplinary storm surrounding Madonna University’s decision to expel a final-year nursing student and suspend 14 others over a viral TikTok video has taken a dramatic legal turn.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) have stepped into the fray, urging the affected 500-level students to challenge the institution’s disciplinary actions in court immediately.

The controversy erupted after the students recorded a playful 19-minute TikTok dance video inside the university’s teaching hospital wearing their clinical whites. Captioned “No sick oo, na Gen Z full hospital,” the clip quickly went viral across social media platforms, prompting the Catholic faith-based university management to wield the big stick for alleged professional misconduct and breach of institutional rules.

However, legal luminaries and civil rights activists have slammed the university’s reaction as a heavy-handed, archaic response to youth culture. Legal analysts argue that the video did not defame, ridicule, or damage the institution’s reputation. On the contrary, experts contend the lighthearted clip actually served as free publicity and positive branding for the university hospital.

The CLO expressed outrage over the university’s actions, describing the punishment as a classic example of stifling youthful expression. Lawyers have advised the students to file a lawsuit demanding immediate reinstatement and financial compensation, arguing that the video was a harmless creative exercise rather than a punishable offense.

With student bodies like NANS previously begging for clemency, the involvement of the NBA and CLO signals that this viral battle is moving from the court of public opinion to an actual court of law.
