LGI Absconds as Sowore, Legal Team Arrive for Raye’s Disciplinary Meeting

The Local Government Inspector (LGI) of Eti-Osa LGA was nowhere to be found after activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, arrived with NYSC member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye, alongside her legal team for a scheduled disciplinary meeting.

A message from the NYSC Local Government Inspector (LGI), seen on Sunday, had reportedly instructed Raye to report to the Eti Osa 3 local government office by 10 a.m. on Monday without fail. This summons followed a viral TikTok video where Raye criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, expressing frustration over the skyrocketing cost of living in Nigeria.

In the emotional video, Raye described Tinubu as a “terrible” President, questioning the government’s response to inflation and economic hardship. After the video gained traction, she revealed that she began receiving multiple calls from NYSC officials pressuring her to take it down and cease further criticism. Shortly after, she was formally summoned to meet with the LGI for disciplinary action.

In solidarity, Sowore, accompanied by his legal team, met with Raye in Lagos and escorted her to the LGI’s office. However, upon their arrival, the NYSC official was nowhere to be found.

Providing an update via social media, Sowore wrote:

“We arrived at the Eti-Osa LGI offices of the @officialnyscng with youth Corper Ushie Rita Uguamaye in Lagos. She was scheduled to appear before the LGI today, and we escorted her with attorneys @mrfestusogun, @yinka_oyesomi, and @justiceojienoh, but the LGI had absconded, failing to show up throughout our stay.”

As of now, the NYSC board has yet to issue an official statement regarding the LGI’s absence or the next steps in Raye’s case.
