Lil Nas X, known for his bold artistic choices, recently turned down a Taylor Swift collaboration. While walking the red carpet at the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles, the rapper revealed that he and Swift nearly worked together on a song. However, the collaboration didn’t pan out because he just couldn’t catch a vibe.
In an exclusive interview with E! News, Lil Nas X shared that Taylor had invited him to lay down a verse on a track, but something just didn’t click for him creatively.
“We were working on something,” he said. “She offered to let me try a verse on something, but I couldn’t catch a vibe for it, so it didn’t happen.”
For an artist who seamlessly blends hip-hop, pop, and country influences, walking away from a Taylor Swift track might seem surprising. But for Lil Nas X, he said he nearly teamed up with her, but ultimately passed on the offer after the song didn’t strike the right chord for him
Despite passing on the opportunity, the Old Town Road hitmaker made it clear that he has nothing but love for Taylor and isn’t ruling out working with her in the future.
“When it happens… Global. World. Tay-tay and Nassy,” he teased.
He also praised Swift’s latest work, calling her a powerhouse in the music industry.
“I’m proud of my girl. I love the album. She’s been doing her thing. She’s at the very tippety top. I’m thankful that she even considered me.”
While a Taylor Swift collab didn’t happen this time, Lil Nas X has his eyes on another rising star, Doechii, the 2025 Grammy-winning rapper and singer.
“My girl’s been doing her thing,” he said. “We’ve been about to get into the studio for like a year but we’ve never got to it. I just want to get out there.”
However, as he gears up for the release of his highly anticipated second album, Dreamboy, he admitted that he’s currently more focused on his solo work.
“I’m not gonna lie, I’m kind of in my own zone right now just focused on me,” he shared, before adding, “I’m super open to working with all the girls that I love, everybody that’s doing their thing right now.”
As for what fans can expect from his upcoming Dreamboy album, the rapper promises a shift in energy, and says this time around, he’s all about having fun.
“This new music era is really gonna be carefree,” he said. “It’s gonna be fun. I’ve always been the girl to rile everybody up. I don’t want to do that this time. I want to have fun.”
With Dreamboy dropping this summer, fans won’t have to wait long to see what Lil Nas X has in store. And who knows? Maybe a Tay-Tay and Nassy track will happen in the future.
