Liverpool kick off title defence with win over Bournemouth

Late goals from Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah helped Liverpool kick off their title defence with a dramatic 4-2 win over Bournemouth.

It a very emotional atmosphere at Anfield where tributes were paid before and during the game to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who died in a car crash in July, with a minute’s silence observed before kick-off and applause in the 20th minute, marking the jersey number the forward wore at Liverpool.

New signing, Hugo Ekitike, opened the scoring eight minutes before the break, dedicating the goals to Jota.

After the break, Cody Gakpo, made it two, but in a swift turn of events, Antoine Semenyo, levelled with a double.

Semenyo thought he had earned the Cherries a point, however, Chiesa came off the bench to put the hosts back in front two minutes to stoppage time, then Mohamed Salah sealed the victory late into added time.
