Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall has performed a major U-turn on his future, signing a new long-term contract with the North London club just months after expressing a desire to leave.
The 20-year-old Swedish international had faced an uncertain period earlier in the window following limited playing time and strong interest from rival suitors—including a rejected £38 million bid from Nottingham Forest alongside tracking from clubs like Newcastle United. However, following constructive talks and clear assurances from head coach Roberto De Zerbi and club hierarchy regarding his long-term development, Bergvall opted to extend his stay.
Speaking on his decision to commit to the club, Bergvall emphasized his belief in the team’s trajectory under the current sporting project:
“I think we’re building something great here. It’s an exciting time for the club and that’s why I’m happy to extend my contract. I’m always trying to achieve as much as possible, to be the best version of myself both on and off the pitch and I know this is the right place to do that.”
