Manchester United’s Carabao Cup defence was short-lived as Newcastle put three past Erik Ten Hag’s struggling side to knock them out of the competition.
The defeat at Old Trafford is the latest in the now-growing number of poor results at home, as Newcastle have now recorded only their second victory against United at Old Trafford since 1972, and this is coming three days after City humiliated United 3-0 at home.
The Red Devils had defeated Newcastle in last season’s final to clinch the trophy but failed to do so this time around, with goals from Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall, and Joe Willock doing the damage.
Might be a really long season for United, as they have now lost eight of their opening 15 games for the first time since the 1962-63 season.
West Ham 3 – 1 Arsenal
Meanwhile, Arsenal are also out of the Carabao Cup after losing 3-1 to West Ham.
An own goal from Ben White set the scene for the defeat, with Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen sealing things off.
Martin Odegaard scored a very late consolation goal.
West Ham will square against Liverpool in the quarter-finals, after Jurgen Klopp’s side defeated Bournemouth 2-1, while Newcastle will trade tackles with Chelsea, who won Blackburn 2-0.
