Racing on a chilly evening at the Gyula Zsivotzky National Athletics Centre, Amusan found herself playing catch-up after a sluggish start that left her trailing behind the early leaders through the opening barriers. True to her fighting spirit, the former world record holder dug deep, utilizing a powerful late surge down the stretch to claw her way through the competitive field and cross the line in 12.34 seconds.
American Olympic champion Masai Russell maintained her stellar, unbeaten 2026 form to claim the ultimate crown and gold medal with a dominant 12.22 seconds, while the Netherlands’ Nadine Visser rounded out the podium with a bronze in 12.39 seconds.
Speaking after her impressive podium finish, a relieved and emotional Amusan opened up about navigating a physically demanding season and battling through setbacks before finding her rhythm on the global stage. Aside from adding another prestigious global medal to her glowing resume, the runner-up finish secures a lucrative $75,000 (approx. ₦100m) cash payout from the tournament’s record-breaking prize purse.
