“Mass Exit in Gusau!” — 8 Zamfara Assembly Members Dump APC Over Insecurity and Injustice

The political landscape in Zamfara State has been hit by a massive tremor as eight serving members of the State House of Assembly officially tendered their resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The high-profile lawmakers sent individual resignation letters to the leadership of the APC, delivering a severe blow to the opposition party in the state ahead of the 2027 political realignments. The resigning members include Hon. Ibrahim T. Tukur (Bakura), Hon. Aliyu Ango Kagara (Talata Mafara South), Hon. Bashar Aliyu (Gummi I), Hon. Faruk Musa Dosara (Maradun I), Hon. Basiru Bello (Bungudu West), Hon. Nasiru Abdullahi (Maru North), Hon. Mukhtaru Nasiru Jikan Shehu (Kaura Namoda North), and the representative for Bukkuyum North.

In their formal resignation statements, the lawmakers cited persistent insecurity plaguing their local constituencies, allegations of internal party injustice, marginalization, and lack of consultation as the primary catalysts for their sudden exit. The defectors expressed frustration that party leadership failed to listen to grassroots concerns or provide adequate backing to tackle pressing welfare and security challenges facing their constituents.

“After careful consideration, wide consultations with stakeholders, and due to the continuous insecurity and unfair treatment, I hereby resign my membership from the APC with immediate effect,” Hon. Ibrahim Tukur noted in his resignation notice.

The mass exit highlights deepening political cracks within the Zamfara APC fold as key figures reassess their political alignment ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
