In a dramatic turn of events, Nigerian gospel artist Mercy Chinwo has filed a defamation lawsuit against popular social media critic, VeryDarkMan (VDM), demanding a hefty ₦1.1 billion in damages.
The lawsuit, filed on March 3, 2025, stems from serious allegations made by VDM on social media, accusing Chinwo of diverting funds from her performances and failing to pay her former record label, EeZee Conceptz, led by Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu (EeZee Tee).
The allegations, which have raised eyebrows within the entertainment industry, have been fiercely disputed by Chinwo’s legal team. In response, they have submitted substantial evidence, including emails and payment receipts, to clear her name and disprove the claims. Mercy’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has called the accusations “libellous, malicious, and damaging,” highlighting the severe harm done to the singer’s professional and personal reputation.
As part of the lawsuit, Chinwo is demanding the immediate removal of all defamatory posts from social media, a formal retraction of the statements made by VeryDarkMan, and a public apology. The singer’s legal team has also requested that the apology be published in national newspapers for a period of 14 consecutive days.
This legal battle adds another layer to the ongoing disputes between Mercy Chinwo and her former record label, EeZee Conceptz.
