“My Heart Is Heavy” – Rapper MI Abaga Condemns Killings in Benue, Calls for Justice and Security Reform

Nigerian rapper and music executive, Jude Abaga, popularly known as MI, has spoken out with sorrow and frustration over the deadly attacks in Benue State. Taking to his X handle on Monday, the veteran rapper expressed deep pain and solidarity with the victims, stating that the lives lost are not just numbers but real people with families and communities now shattered.

“My heart is heavy. It grieves me deeply to see so much of the Middle Belt bleed. The recent killings in Benue are not just statistics, they are our people, our families, our communities being torn apart. I stand in solidarity with my brothers and sisters in Benue. Your pain is my pain. We can’t normalise this cycle of violence that has plagued our land for too long. To those we’ve lost: we will not forget you. To those still standing, we stand with you,” he wrote.

MI called on the Nigerian government to take urgent and decisive steps in addressing the crisis. He demanded a transparent investigation into the killings and urged authorities to significantly reinforce security in the affected areas to protect innocent lives and restore peace.

In a similar news, music star, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has demanded urgent and collective action against the renewed killings in Benue State, describing the situation as a “national emergency”.

Expressing his grief and frustration over the incessant bloodshed in his home state.

“What is going on in my state has become a national emergency. I cannot wrap my head around it. I don’t even know what to say at this point in time because it is going to be business as usual,” he lamented.

“This thing has to stop. It has to involve everybody. Every stakeholder in this country, every stakeholder in Benue State. This is not child’s play. It’s becoming ridiculous.

“My heart is heavy. I am terribly sad, terribly angry. What is happening in Benue has gone beyond mere condemnation. Serious action needs to be taken,” he said.
