N58.47tn Budget: Reps Pass Tinubu’s 2026 Appropriation Bill for Second Reading

The House of Representatives has passed President Bola Tinubu’s ₦58.4 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill through its second reading. Titled the “Budget of Consolidation and Shared Prosperity,” the ambitious fiscal plan moved forward following a closed-door session where lawmakers debated its merits and economic implications. This progress marks a critical step in the administration’s efforts to stabilize the economy and foster national growth.

The bill has now been referred to the committee stage, where lawmakers will conduct a detailed, line-by-line scrutiny of the proposed expenditures. During this phase, various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) are expected to defend their allocations before the relevant House Committees. With a focus on strengthening infrastructure and enhancing social welfare, the 2026 budget aims to consolidate previous economic reforms while ensuring that the benefits of national wealth are more equitably shared across the federation.
