NDC Unveils 2027 Election Game Plan as Peter Obi Takes Centre Stage

As the 2027 general election draws closer, and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken another major step by unveiling its National Campaign Council, with Peter Obi among the key figures expected to drive its campaign.

Former Bayelsa State governor Seriake Dickson has been named chairman of the council, while Obi will serve as co-chairman. Rabiu Kwankwaso is also among the prominent political figures listed in the party’s campaign structure.

The announcement puts the NDC’s leadership arrangements firmly in the spotlight as political parties race to organise their supporters and build momentum ahead of the presidential election.

However, the development has already attracted criticism. Presidency-linked voices have questioned the composition of the council, while critics within the wider opposition space have raised concerns about its grassroots structure and readiness for a demanding nationwide campaign.

For Obi and his political allies, the real challenge will be turning public enthusiasm into a strong organisation that can reach voters beyond social media. Campaign councils can generate headlines, but election victories depend on much more, including local mobilisation, credible messaging and sustained engagement with communities.

The NDC’s next moves will therefore be closely watched as Nigerians assess whether the party can build a convincing alternative ahead of 2027.

With rival camps already trading political blows, the battle for attention has clearly begun long before election day.
