Shock, outrage, and demands for justice continue to reverberate across Northern Nigeria following the tragic death of popular Kano social media commentator and outspoken political critic, Ibrahim Khalil, widely known as Dan Shagamu.
In a swift legal update, the Kofar Kudu Upper Shari’a Court sitting in Kano State ordered the immediate remand of three men—Aliyu Adamu, Salihu Haruna, and Sani Muhammad—at a correctional facility for their alleged involvement in the horrific killing. The trio faced a two-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
According to police prosecution details presented before the court by Nafiu Kabiru, the suspects trespassed into Dan Shagamu’s residence in Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area, at about 11:30 p.m. on September 8. The defendants allegedly attacked the late influencer with a sharp knife, inflicting fatal injuries before fleeing. Although he was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for emergency treatment, doctors confirmed him dead.
Despite the gravity of the prosecution’s claims, all three defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. Presiding judge Malam Ibrahim Sarki-Yola firmly denied bail and ordered the suspects remanded in prison custody, adjourning proceedings until November 17 for continuation of hearing.
