As political maneuvering heats up ahead of the 2027 general elections, Peter Obi has made a bold pledge regarding his potential presidency: he will not spend a single day of his presidential holidays outside Nigeria.
In an Independence anniversary message outlining his vision for domestic governance and public sector accountability, Obi declared that a Nigerian president should spend vacation periods connecting directly with citizens across states. He emphasized that instead of flying to overseas luxury destinations, his presidential holidays would be spent touring states such as Zamfara, Borno, Kwara, Ebonyi, Edo, and Ekiti to listen to residents and assess challenges firsthand.
“As I have always done, I will lead by example. In four years as President of this great nation, I will not spend my holidays outside Nigeria,” Obi stated. He questioned the trend of public officials seeking leisure abroad while critical national infrastructure at home requires urgent intervention, arguing that leadership must stay grounded in the daily reality of the people it serves.
Obi reiterated that while official state visits abroad remain necessary for international diplomacy, presidential vacations belong within the country’s borders to promote domestic tourism and show solidarity with citizens enduring economic and security pressures.
The announcement has sparked widespread reactions across political circles and social media platforms, with supporters hailing the commitment as a refreshing lesson in patriotism and accountability.
