Authorities at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja have officially stepped up health surveillance protocols, enforcing mandatory Health Declaration Forms and thermal screenings for incoming international travellers following regional Ebola health alerts.
The heightened precautionary measures follow directives from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and the Federal Ministry of Health to shield the country from potential cross-border disease transmission. Under the updated guidelines, inbound passengers arriving from designated high-risk regions must complete the online NCDC Health Declaration Form prior to departure or upon arrival at the terminal.
Port health officials at the airport have reactivated thermal scanners and passenger screening stations to monitor body temperatures and track travel histories before granting clearance through immigration. Airport spokesperson Bishop Kunle confirmed that extensive sensitization campaigns are ongoing among airport personnel, airlines, and passengers to ensure seamless compliance without causing unnecessary travel delays.
The health declaration system collects crucial travel data, recent medical symptoms, and local contact details to enable public health officials to conduct 21-day follow-up monitoring where necessary. Aviation officials have urged international travelers and airlines operating into the nation’s capital to adhere strictly to the protocols to safeguard public health across the nation.
