The security crisis in Oyo State has officially transformed into a major national labor and educational emergency. Following the indefinite strike action launched by public school teachers in Oyo State, the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) successfully mobilized massive, nationwide solidarity rallies across all 36 states of the federation.
The extensive industrial friction has brought academic activities to a complete standstill, locking millions of students out of classrooms. In major state capitals, thousands of furious educators and labor unionists marched in solidarity to various state secretariats and government houses.
The protesting teachers are presenting an uncompromising list of demands to both state and federal authorities. Chief among their grievances is the immediate, concrete military fortification of vulnerable rural school corridors to prevent future incursions.
The union is also demanding the immediate deployment of the newly approved 1,000 localized forest guards within the dense Oyo border regions, alongside the swift, safe rescue of the 25 students and 7 teachers who are still being held captive. The victims were forcefully taken from their classrooms in Oriire Local Government Area and are believed to be trapped in the thick, treacherous forests along the Oyo-Kwara border.
Adding a chilling layer of complexity to the unfolding national crisis, security sources have confirmed that the kidnappers are holding firm on their operational tactics. The bandits are flatly refusing to open lines of communication or negotiate with the traumatized families of the victims. Instead, the terror group is strictly maintaining its stance, demanding direct, high-level negotiations with federal government emissaries before considering any release terms.
With the NUT vowing to sustain the shutdown indefinitely and classrooms across the country empty, pressure is mounting rapidly on the federal government to break the dangerous deadlock, protect the integrity of the nation’s educational system, and bring the innocent captives back home safely.
