Media mogul and EbonyLife Group CEO Mo Abudu has raised a strong alarm over a fraudulent, AI-generated deepfake video of her circulating online. The heavily manipulated clip falsely depicts the media executive endorsing a financial scheme and promising Nigerians that they can earn up to ₦700,000 daily. Taking to her official social media platforms to disclaim the footage, Abudu identified a Facebook page named “Naija Capital Growth” as the source of the scam and explicitly clarified that both the voice and the messaging in the viral video were artificially altered.
To completely debunk the fraudulent scheme, Abudu shared the original, unedited footage of the interview, which was actually recorded during the Forbes 30/50 Summit in Abu Dhabi back in March 2023. She stressed that she has never, and will never, solicit money from the public or promote get-rich-quick investments. Warning her followers and the general public to remain highly vigilant, she labeled the deepfake as completely false, malicious, and misleading, noting that the relevant authorities have already been briefed to track down the cybercriminals behind the identity theft.
