The Kogi State Government has officially confirmed the elimination of a dreaded bandit kingpin, Kachala Ibrahim Batijo. The notorious warlord, who had long terrorized parts of North-Central Nigeria, met his end during a massive, intelligence-driven offensive launched by a combined force of Nigerian troops and local hybrid security operatives.
Batijo had recently risen to the top of the state’s most-wanted list after orchestrating a brutal and deeply distressing raid on a school within the Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, an attack that targeted vulnerable students preparing for their WAEC examinations. The criminal onslaught sparked massive public outrage, forcing state authorities to adjust their defensive strategies. Following the failed raid and subsequent tracking operations, tactical units cornered the bandit leader and his remaining fighters in a dense forest hideout, neutralizing him in the ensuing, high-intensity firefight.
Visiting the resilient Iluke-Bunu community to commiserate with affected families and boost local morale, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo praised the sheer bravery of the security forces. He noted that Batijo’s elimination sends an uncompromising message to all criminal elements operating within the state’s borders: Kogi will never be a safe haven for terror. While the government continues to work alongside community leaders to fortify local schools and farming communities, this tactical success has brought an immense sense of relief and justice to the traumatized residents of Kabba/Bunu.
