A fresh development in the legal case involving former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has brought his academic and national service credentials back into the spotlight.
During proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) official told the court that the discharge certificate presented by Nnaji was not issued by the organisation.
The witness, Yusuf Jumare, reportedly explained that features on the document did not match the format used by the NYSC at the time it was said to have been issued.
Nnaji is facing charges brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), including allegations relating to certificate forgery and money laundering. The claims are before the court, and the defendant’s guilt has not been established.
The case is attracting attention because it touches on a sensitive issue in Nigerian public life: the credibility of the qualifications and records presented by people seeking or holding public office.
As proceedings continue, Nigerians will be watching to see how the court evaluates the evidence and what the outcome could mean for accountability in public service.
