Obi Under Fire Again From Onanuga

The presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga has again blasted Peter Obi over his comment that he would serve a single term if elected as President, accusing him of having flunked history in school.

He made the comment, Monday on his X handle, stating that Obi is trying to justify his so-called ‘sacrosanct’ and quoting the wrong examples to support his claim.

Onanuga said, “A simple fact check by a politician who always challenges his gullible and unthinking mob to verify his statements would have revealed that he quoted the wrong examples.

Obi would have found that Lincoln, at the time he was assassinated, had finished his first term, had won re-election, and had been sworn in for a second term.

Lincoln began his first term on March 4, 1861. He won re-election on November 8, 1864, and was sworn in on March 4, 1865, before his assassination on April 15, 1865″

Earlier the Presidency had described Obi’s renewed one-term pledge as deceitful, accusing him of broken promises and political inconsistency. Onanuga said Obi had served Anambra State for two tenures and his credibility and fitness cannot be measured as such is not fit to serve Nigeria.

Pointing to the examples, the presidential spokesman had blasted Obi saying, “You’re neither a Mandela nor a Lincoln or a Kennedy. You sound as if you have never held an elected office before. You sought re-election as Anambra Governor in 2010 and narrowly won courtesy of a divided opposition. Why didn’t you walk away after only one term in office?”.

“After serving two terms, did Anambra look like a state that has been transformed? If you couldn’t transform a small Anambra after eight years, is there a guarantee that you’ll do anything significant under four years as President of a complex and complicated Nigeria?”

Speaking further, the presidential spokesperson had said, “You talk about keeping your promises or your vow being your bond, but you and I know that’s not true. You have broken previous promises and usually lie with reckless abandon.

“If we’re to make allowance for excuses, you’ll definitely have an excuse to break your one-term vow. You talk about trust, but how do you expect people to trust someone who can’t keep a simple promise not to leave a political party?”
