Okpekpe 10km Road Race Moved to May 30 for “Enhanced Experience”

The organisers of the Okpekpe International 10km Road Race have announced a one-week shift in the date for the 2026 edition, moving the event from May 23 to Saturday, May 30, 2026.

The decision was confirmed on Monday, May 4, 2026, by Pamodzi Sports Marketing, the organisers of the historic World Athletics Gold Label race.

Reason for the Rescheduling

According to Race Director Zack Amodu, the adjustment is a proactive measure to ensure a “world-class race experience” and is not due to any technical setbacks. The extra week will be used to:

  • Enhance Logistics: Finalize upgraded support systems, including expanded medical coverage and improved security deployment.
  • Upgraded Facilities: Improve spectator viewing areas and athlete comfort stations along the hilly Edo North terrain.
  • Medical Standards: The move follows the recent World Athletics certification of the race’s Medical Director in Madrid, making Okpekpe the first race in Nigeria to meet these specific new global health standards.
