Nigerian rap superstar Olamide Adedeji, famously known as Olamide, has once again proven why he’s one of the most respected voices in African music. In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, the “Local Rapper” crooner shared deep insights into his career journey — highlighting why he chooses authenticity over international validation.
Olamide revealed that one of his biggest strategies for success is knowing his audience and staying loyal to them.
“You have to identify your audience. Once you identify your audience, the rest of the world will catch up eventually. So, I have to stay true to myself no matter where or what it is in this world,” he said.
The YBNL boss, who has remained a pillar for indigenous rap in Nigeria, made it clear that he has no intention of changing his sound or switching his style just to impress Western listeners.
“I’m comfortable in my skin. I’m a Naija guy, Yoruba boy — I have H-Factor and all that, and I’m proud about it. You just have to stay true to yourself,” he added.
Over the years, Olamide has consistently used his platform to promote homegrown talent and push the boundaries of Nigerian hip-hop through his record label, YBNL Nation. His philosophy remains simple — stay grounded, stay original, and let the world catch up.
