The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of planning to create another crisis at the local government level, alleging that the administration may take actions capable of disrupting the activities of elected council officials. The party raised the allegation while expressing concern about the future of local government administration in the state. According to the Osun APC, any attempt to interfere with the operations of local councils could deepen political tension and undermine effective governance at the grassroots. The party urged the governor to respect the constitutional responsibilities of local government authorities and allow elected officials to perform their duties without unnecessary interference. The allegations come against the background of continuing political disagreements between the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State. Local government administration has remained a sensitive issue in the state, particularly because political control of councils can influence the delivery of services and the distribution of resources to communities. The APC argued that residents should not be made to bear the consequences of political disputes between rival parties. It called on relevant authorities, political leaders and community stakeholders to encourage peaceful dialogue and prevent actions that could lead to confrontation. The party also appealed to security agencies to remain alert and ensure that any disagreement between political groups does not develop into violence. The allegations made by the APC have not established that the governor intends to cause a crisis, and the governor or his representatives would have the opportunity to respond to the claims. Political disputes in Osun have frequently generated strong statements from both major parties, particularly around elections, local government administration and control of public institutions. A peaceful resolution of disagreements is important to ensure that council activities continue without disruption. Effective local government administration is particularly important because councils are responsible for services and programmes that directly affect residents at the community level. The APC maintained that political differences should be handled through lawful institutions rather than confrontation. As tensions continue between the ruling PDP and opposition APC in Osun, stakeholders are expected to exercise restraint and avoid statements or actions that could inflame the situation. The coming weeks may determine whether the latest allegations lead to further political confrontation or are resolved through dialogue and established legal processes.
