PDP Delegates Convene at Moshood Abiola Stadium to Elect New Leadership

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently holding its National Convention at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, marking a pivotal moment for the opposition party as it seeks to stabilize its leadership and map out a strategy for the 2027 general elections.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who has been instrumental in the planning of this event, conducted an inspection of the stadium facilities yesterday to ensure that everything is in place for the two-day gathering, which runs from today, March 29, through tomorrow, March 30. Speaking to reporters during the inspection, Wike maintained that the convention is a clear demonstration that the PDP is “alive and ready” to bounce back, dismissing ongoing narratives of a permanent split within the party and focusing instead on the goal of presenting a unified front.

Despite the persistent internal tensions and legal challenges that have defined the party’s recent history, the Wike-led National Caretaker Working Committee has pushed forward with the convention to elect new leadership and resolve long-standing disputes over party governance. The atmosphere in Abuja is charged, with delegates from across the country converging on the stadium for what is being seen as a “make-or-break” event for the party’s future viability as a formidable opposition force.
