A leading port operator has called on government agencies, importers, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders to work collaboratively toward resolving the operational bottlenecks affecting Nigeria’s Single Window cargo clearance system. The operator emphasized that while the Single Window initiative has the potential to transform port operations through faster documentation, improved transparency, and reduced cargo clearance times, persistent implementation challenges continue to hinder its effectiveness. According to the operator, stronger collaboration among regulatory agencies, customs authorities, terminal operators, shipping companies, and the private sector is essential to achieving a seamless and fully integrated trade facilitation process. The appeal comes amid ongoing efforts to modernize Nigeria’s maritime sector, improve ease of doing business, reduce port congestion, and lower the cost of importing and exporting goods. Industry stakeholders believe that addressing delays caused by manual processes, overlapping regulatory procedures, inconsistent documentation requirements, and limited digital integration will significantly enhance efficiency across the nation’s ports. The operator further noted that an effective Single Window platform would strengthen revenue generation, improve compliance, boost investor confidence, and increase Nigeria’s competitiveness as a regional trade hub under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Stakeholders also stressed the need for continuous investment in technology, staff training, policy coordination, and infrastructure to ensure the successful implementation of the system. As discussions continue, industry experts remain optimistic that sustained cooperation among all parties will unlock the full benefits of the Single Window initiative and accelerate economic growth through more efficient port operations.
